No matter how young or old you are, hearing loss can be stressful, worrisome, and isolating. But if you’re here reading this, you know that you want to do something about it.

The Importance of Getting Your Hearing Tested in Your 60s

by | Nov 7, 2024 | Hearing Loss

When we think of hearing loss, quite often we think of the older generations dealing with constant repetition, turning up the volume, and feeling lost and left out of conversations. However, with noise exposure increasing and getting louder, there’s a growing populace of younger people facing hearing loss challenges, too.

Thankfully, especially with the release of the latest Apple AirPods hearing test capabilities, more and more young people are starting to see the benefits of better hearing and investing in hearing healthcare, safeguarding their ears for the long run.

No matter how young or old you are, hearing loss can be stressful, worrisome, and isolating. But if you’re here reading this, you know that you want to do something about it.

Hearing loss doesn’t mean you’re getting old – rather, it points to a full, happy life well lived with lots of exciting, loud events like social gatherings, concerts, sports games, and more! But as we wind down, especially when we get into our sixties, our hearing becomes increasingly important to ensuring that we stay safe in our active, independent lifestyles.

So, what can you do to help optimize your hearing in your sixties? A hearing test is the best place to start.

What Happens in a Hearing Assessment?

A comprehensive hearing test is the first step on your hearing health journey. Here, you’ll get a full understanding of your current range of hearing and find out what you need to do to optimize your hearing to stronger, healthier levels.

Our hearing evaluations take around an hour to complete and will be entirely painless and stress-free.

We start with a chat about you: your health, family history of hearing loss, your hobbies and lifestyle, and more to determine what could have caused your hearing loss. A quick physical examination of your ears comes next, where we search for earwax impaction or infection, which could have caused your hearing challenges, and then move into the testing section.

Your hearing test will be unique, with your needs put first. We have an array of hearing evaluations to conduct that will help us determine your range of hearing, including testing the response of the hair cells in your ear, pressure in your eardrum, levels of speech reception, and more.

Throughout the process, your audiologist is happy to answer any questions you may have about your hearing test and will work with you at your pace to ensure your comfort.

You’ll receive your results on the same day, and we’ll talk with you about the next steps for your hearing, whether that means booking your annual hearing test for the following year or exploring advanced hearing aid technology.

It can be nerve-racking to ask for help, especially regarding your health, but with the right partnership with a professional and passionate team of audiologists, you’ll be in safe hands.
