Hot Tip Alert! At his annual hearing test, a hearing aid wearing movie buff gave me the inside scoop on his recent cinematic experience. The Cinemark Theatre at Legacy and 75 now has individual Closed Caption devices! There is a gadget that you check out from Cinemark that fits in your cupholder and provides closed captioning for the movie! Pretty neat technology! This device isn’t offered at all theaters, so make sure and check www.cinemark.com to investigate your favorite location. Just enter your zip code, click on your preferred location, click on the Amenities tab on the left hand side of the page and see if Closed Caption or Listening Device is listed as an option.

We were curious about the other movie theaters in the area and decided that instead of our usual Friday afternoon staff meeting we would head out to Fairview catch a flick. (All in the name of science, of course!) We had a busy morning at the office and arrived at the iPIC Theater later than scheduled. Due to the chaos we completely forgot to ask about and an assistive listening device…whoops!! A phone call to the theater later verified that iPIC does not offer the cup-holder-closed-caption option, but they do have a headset available. Since we let the research community down with our poorly executed experiment, hopefully you will go try it out and let us know how it works.

So, we know Cinemark in Plano (Legacy and 75) and iPIC in Fairview are great movie theaters options for people with hearing loss. Do you know of any others?
